The pyramids and the museum, in one day

A full guided day from your Cairo or Giza hotel, run by OceanAir Travel: the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple with an Egyptologist, then two guided hours in the Grand Egyptian Museum and lunch. Pick it if you want both of the big Giza sights in one booking, with both entry tickets already in it.

Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids & Sphinx Tour with Lunch

About this experience

Most first-time visitors to Cairo want two things: the pyramids, and the treasures that came out of the tombs. This day joins them up. A van collects you from your hotel in Cairo or Giza, and an Egyptologist guide walks you round the plateau, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. After that comes the Grand Egyptian Museum, about 2 km away, for two guided hours. Lunch at an Egyptian restaurant closes the day. The listing includes the entry tickets to the pyramids and Sphinx area and to the museum, bottled water, taxes and tips.

The museum is the reason to book this rather than a shorter plateau tour. The Grand Egyptian Museum was inaugurated on 1 November 2025 and opened to the public on 4 November. Its official ticket site lists what an entry covers: the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Main Galleries, the Grand Hall and Grand Stairs, and Khufu's Boats Museum. Tutankhamun's collection is shown together there for the first time, and the two boats found beside the Great Pyramid now sit in the museum, not on the plateau. Museum tickets are timed and the official site calls them non-refundable, so it helps that the operator books that part for you.

Three things to know. The listing does not mention a ticket to go inside any pyramid, so plan on seeing the pyramids from outside. The camel ride on the itinerary is optional and paid on the day, and drinks at lunch are extra. The listing does not state a group size, and it says the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. Bring a passport or ID card (a copy is accepted) and leave luggage and large bags at the hotel.

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairo or Giza in an air-conditioned van
  • An Egyptologist guide on the plateau, at the Sphinx and in the museum
  • The Great Pyramid up close, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre
  • Two guided hours in the Grand Egyptian Museum
  • Entry tickets to the pyramids and Sphinx area and to the museum
  • Lunch at an Egyptian restaurant, plus bottled water

How it runs

  1. MorningPickup from your hotel

The driver arrives within 60 minutes before the booked time, says the listing. The drive to Giza takes about an hour. Pickup from areas such as New Cairo, Heliopolis or 6th of October City is a paid add-on at checkout.

  2. 1 hourThe pyramids with your guide

Your Egyptologist walks you round the plateau and up to the Great Pyramid. Since April 2025, cars and tour buses stop at the new visitor centre on the Cairo-Fayoum road, and electric shuttle buses run between the sights.

  3. OptionalA camel ride

The itinerary sets aside time for a camel ride at an extra fee. Animal rides now start from a designated riding zone on the plateau. Skip it and enjoy the view instead if you prefer.

  4. 45 minutesThe Sphinx and the Valley Temple

About 30 minutes at the Sphinx and 15 minutes in the Valley Temple of Khafre, with its square red granite pillars. The Sphinx lost its nose to deliberate damage long ago. The Napoleon story is a myth.

  5. 2 hoursThe Grand Egyptian Museum

A guided visit of about two hours. The colossal statue of Ramesses II in the atrium stands 11 m tall. Two hours is enough for the highlights, not for the whole museum.

  6. AfternoonLunch, then back to the hotel

About an hour for lunch at an Egyptian restaurant in Giza, then the van takes you back. Drinks at lunch are not included.

Tips before you book

  • Pack a passport or ID card. The listing accepts a copy, and the museum and plateau gates check bags.
  • Leave big bags at the hotel. The listing does not allow luggage or large bags.
  • Ticket desks at the pyramids stopped accepting cash on 2 June 2023. If you add an interior ticket on the day, pay by card.
  • Want to go inside a pyramid as well? Check which pyramid interiors are open this autumn first: interiors close in rotation for maintenance.
  • Wear shoes with grip and a hat. The plateau is sand and stone with little shade.
